根據JJG313-94《測量用電流互感器》，JJG313-93《測量用電壓互感器》要求互感器交接時和更換繞組后必須進行現場變比檢查試驗。
常規互感器變比的檢查方法是電流法，從原理上講是一種容易理解可行的檢查方法，但是隨著系統容量的增加，電流互感器的一次電流越來越大，**可達數萬安培;現場加電流至數百安培已有困難，數千安培或數萬安培幾乎不可能，況且體積**，重量重達幾百公斤或幾噸，現場使用更為困難，如采用小電流法，由于電流互感器磁感度、線性度、阻抗、漏抗的影響會使電流互感器誤差驟增，失去了變比檢查的意義。
